I wasn't joking when I said that I wanted to give as much as I could back to this community that my small college wallet can afford. Because of that, everyone, I have decided that I am going to start a contest right here on this little forum. What, you may be asking, is this contest and what do I get to win?! I know, everyone wants to know what they are going to win. And ladies and gentlemen, I will gladly tell you what you are going to win. I will tell you what you're going to win and I will tell you exactly what the circumstances for winning are. So, let's get started with the ways to win!
How to Win:
The way this contest will work is that it will be an accumulation of points. For a series of different acts, you will be awarded a different number of points. After three weeks have gone by, the one with the most points will be the winner of the our prize. However, because I want to offer AS MUCH as I can, I will be offering two prizes. But, I will mention that later. So, what is the point system:
- 5 points is awarded for each post that you make. Each thread that you reply to will get you 5 points added to your total score.
- 10 points is awarded for each thread that you make. If you make a new thread, ten points will be added to your total score.
- 15 points is awarded for each member you refer to the site that MAKES ten posts minimum. I will check IPs and if they share the same IP address as you, you will be disqualified.
- 50 points is awarded to anyone that writes an article about science. I intend on making an articles section on the site and I want to get some articles to add to it. For every article that you write, you will get 50 points.
- 25 points is awarded for each and every link that you put onto your site. What does this mean? A lot of you have a myspace account. If you put a link in the body of your myspace account that leads to this site, you get 25 points. What I mean by a link is that you must make it a clickable link. You can put a link anywhere and on as many sites. The more sites, the more points.
- 20 points is awarded for any idea that you send to me via PM that can be used to help the site grow. It can either be a contest idea or something to advertise the site. If I implement the idea, you get 20 points.
- 1 point for every point your referred member posts. So, that means if you refer two people and each of them post twenty times, that'll be another forty points to add to your total. This is another good reason to recruit your friends.
At 11:59EST on April 17th, I want to have all of your points totaled and sent to my PM box. This means that you are responsible for totaling your points. Although you get to total your points, that does not mean you can attempt to cheat. If you do cheat, you will be disqualified, so I really don't suggest it. Total all of your points and once I have finished calculating all the points, the two winners will be announced.
The Rules:- Don't spam. Only post if you have something informative to add to the thread. I will go through your posts and if all I see are a bunch of spamming posts, I will not give you the points for those posts and you might lose.
- When you refer a member, make sure that it is a friend. Don't refer yourself and attempt to get passed that way. If I find out that you did, you will be disqualified.
- When writing an article, the sole ownership is transfered to ScienceChats.com and will be posted on an article part of the website when it gets up and running. The articles must be a minimum of 500 words and must be unique. Don't copy and paste.
- All forum rules must be followed when doing this contest.
- In an effort to make it fair, no posts that were posted before the time of this thread will be counted in the contest.
What Do I Win:
This is probably the part you're most interested in. Yes, yes, I know, you want to know what you win. I can't blame you. What you win is extremely simple. Well, maybe not simple, but it is my way of hopefully giving you something to enjoy. So...The prizes.
First Place:
One year subscription to Popular Science. This will include twelve issues of the magazine. They will be mailed to you and for one year, you can enjoy some interesting articles found in it.
If this is not something you want and would rather get the equivalent of this in Amazon.com gift cards, let me know if you are the winner and I will send you one of those instead.
Second Place:
Ten dollar gift card to Amazon.com. I will send you it either in the mail or you can get it e-mailed to you. You can purchase what ever you want with this gift card on the website.
I understand that these prizes are not that great, but this forum is still growing. When my wallet gets bigger, I promise that the prizes will only get better.
