The term 'Big Bang' was first coined by Fred Hoyle in a statement seeking to belittle the credibility of the theory that he did not believe to be true. As far as who discovered it, I think many cosmologist and physicist realized that after the 'Expanding Universe' was discovered that it was a piece of evidence for the 'Big Bang'. Because if the Universe was expanding that meant that it must have at one time been very compact and dence. Then in 1964 'cosmic microwave background radiation' was discovered which also confirmed the 'Big Bang Theory'. The question that I've always wanted answered was how did this very compact and dence object come to be here in the first place? It seems that when a question is answered, more and more questions follow.
