A junior high school student from my home state recited a mere 2,000 digits of pi, breaking her previous winning record of 1,355 digits! The competition she won is held in honor of Pi Day (March 14).
She was able to accomplish this by remembering the numbers phonetically in groups of 5 and writes them on her hand and arm.
