Default Junior High Girl Recites 2000 Digits of Pi

A junior high school student from my home state recited a mere 2,000 digits of pi, breaking her previous winning record of 1,355 digits! The competition she won is held in honor of Pi Day (March 14).

She was able to accomplish this by remembering the numbers phonetically in groups of 5 and writes them on her hand and arm.

Check out this video of her doing speed Pi. You got to see this:

She intends to learn 4000 numbers for next year's competition.

How many numbers of pi can you recite?

It's like high school sports, but for math geeks.

.....I guess a record thing would be cool but I'm not that big of a math fan....my school barely has math classes...I'm pretty much learning everything over due to wanting to learn more about programming...gratz to her though....I'm good at 3.14.....that is all my teachers wanted anyway...@_@

That really sucks, where are you from? It's one thing to remove music and the arts from schools (and those are very important as well), but MATH?! That really upsets me.

lol my school is a small public school so it has problems finding teachers and such. We have 2 really good math teachers. They have to cover basic math classes and then the actual classes. but thanks to etv. we have higher math but it isn't really learning over the tv....
but my school is starting to upgrade and with the curriculum requiring higher classes before you are able to graduate they have to start getting more teachers...
