Default String Theory

I heard about this last spring. The concept confuses me. Has anything more been said to support this theory? And can someone explain it in terms someone without a degree in physics can understand? TY.

hi..squeebeast here..the cosmic string theory is the latest fairy story invented by cosmologists to try to explain away the overwhelming appearance of design in the universe..it is as completly devoid of any exlpanitory content,it is so ambiguous, nobody can really understand what is being said..in a nutshell the idea is that all matter and energy in the universe sort of suddenly made itself..for no reason and by no Creator, just by a cosmic accident..how stupid is that huh?? i think its much easier to just belive what seems so plain..the universe and everything in it was called into being supernatually by kind and intelegent Creator!

Squeebeast, this is a science forum, not a religion forum. You are entitled to your own beliefs, but we don't call people stupid here for adhering to science instead of religion.

You can find a basic description of String Theory at http://www.superstringtheory.com/basics/basic4.html.

I don't think it has quite the standing it had at first anymore. You might want to read The Trouble with Physics by Lee Smolin, which is subtitled "The Rise of String Theory, the Fall of Science, and What Comes Next."

I think it has grown into M-theory now.
